Space: The Next Frontier?
Space, when I think about Space I think about many things. Void, stars, darkness, vast. But is Space really the next frontier?
Some would say yes. The fact that the world has shrunk in it's size (though not really) is not surprising. Yes the world is the same size as it was 2,000 years ago, the reach of communication we have now is far and thus, the world is a much smaller place. This leaves many to believe that Space is the only next place to go. "The Last Frontier" is what many people called the old west back in the 1800s. The west was in fact not the last frontier but just a piece of it. Oh if only the world could be larger.
One of my personal dreams is to be a treasure hunter. How exciting and adventurous that would be! I watch movies like Indiana Jones or play a game like Uncharted with Nathan Drake and I long at the chance to find something like an ancient artifact, or an old Tibet monastery, or even some old ruins. That would be worth more than money or fame. Those don't matter.
Some would say no. Many believe that we will never explore Space beyond the Moon ourselves. We may never reach Mars or any other planet for that matter. This is why many believe that places like Alaska and Indo-Asia are still the Next Frontier. I believe there are still places on Earth that have not been explored or even touched. Though the world is smaller, I think that these places are still out there... somewhere.
For the normal joe looking for an adventure, one needs to not look far. You're backyard could be the Next Frontier for you. Who knows. The only thing I know is that Space is vast, dark, and cold. Will we go farther than Mars? Will we even get to Mars? These are the questions that nobody knows. Space... Yet to be really explored, Space will always be full of mystery and unknown places. That is one thing that will never change.
